Russia

The most popular birthday song in Russia is “The Crocodile Gena”. This song was composed in 1969 by the musicians Vladimir Shainsky (Владимир Шаинский) and Aleksandr Timofeevskiy (Александр Тимофевский) for the animated film “Gena the crocodile and his friends” inspired by the illustrated book by Eduardus.

Coro
Sin embargo, estoy tocando mi acordeón
Frente a todos en la calle.
Es tan triste que un cumpleaños
Solo puede suceder una vez al año.

Un mago aparecerá de repente
En un whirlybird azul
Y me mostrará películas gratis.

How celebrate birthdays in Russia

With an average population of 144,904,396 million people, birthdays and special years are celebrated in Russia. The birthday person often invites friends and loved ones to a party at their home or restaurant, and their guests often give many gifts

In Russia, birthdays were first celebrated around the 17th century and generally the birthday coincided with the day of the name of the person. To celebrate, the night before the birthday, the family of the persons birthday baked birthday cakes and breads, and on his birthday they sang a birthday song over bread.

Usually it is the birthday person who brings food and drink to his party.

On children's birthdays they give gifts to all the children who attend the party. They usually hang gifts from a clothesline, so that each child can choose one and take it as a souvenir.

Vodka and Karaváy, a special bread that is prepared for weddings and celebrations.
